Obituary of James Albert Carlin

Surrounded by family at home, James A. Carlin passed away peacefully on April 4, 2023 after a long battle with cancer. James (Jimmy) was born the 1,000th baby at Sidney Hospital, NY on August 18, 1947, son of Albert W. and Margaret L. (Pool) Carlin.
He graduated from Bainbridge-Guilford School in 1967. Beginning at a young age, Jim was very responsible and a hard worker. He babysat, worked on a farm, learned well-drilling, was a clerk at Hales Pharmacy, and bartended at the Welcome Inn. He enlisted in the Air Force and served from 1967-71 during the Vietnam War Era where he was stationed abroad in Thailand then Germany. In later years he worked at American Plastics, in plumbing & heating, and coffee sales. Jim volunteered at the Bainbridge Fire Department for 20 years. He retired from NYSEG and worked at Horton Hardware during his retirement years.
He married the love of his life, JoAnn Rice in 1968 and they raised and enjoyed a son, two daughters and 13 grandchildren. Over the last decade, Jim and JoAnn spent winter months in New Smyrna Beach, Florida.
He's predeceased by his parents and brother, Albert W. Jr. He's survived by wife JoAnn, son Robert (Theresa), daughters Kristy and Sarah (Mary) and grandchildren Amaya, Savannah, Lucas, Nicole, Edward, Richard, Marek, Michael (Alexis), Zorion, Tracy, Molly, Matteo and Luca, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, aunts, uncle and cousins.
Jim was most known for his wit and humor, talking to and enjoying people and bringing laughter to all. He was fun to be around and always brought smiles to anyone he came in contact with. He never met a stranger, only a friend he hadn't met before.

Friends may call Tuesday, April 11, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, April 12, at the funeral chapel.
Burial with military honors will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery in Bainbridge.
