Obituary of Alan Lee Mayo
Please share a memory of Alan to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Alan Mayo, "Al", or aka "the other one", 61 of Otego NY, passed away unexpectedly on January 14, 2023. Alan was born to Norman and Helen Mayo (Walley) of Sidney Center NY. Alan was taken away from his family and loved one's way too soon. He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Colleen Mayo (Bradt) and children; Nicholas (Kimberly) of Bainbridge, Shannon (Zack) Bryner of Ohio, Jordin (Ariel) of Oneonta, and Jared of Otego. His sister Nancy (Terry) Parsons, brother Gary and companion Phyllis. Mother in-law Kathleen Bradt of Port Charlotte Florida, brother in-law Charles (Chuck) Bradt of Oneonta, Sister in-law Cherri (Jim) Alderdice of Port Charlotte Florida, his beautiful grandchildren: Marissa, Dawson, Kayden, Jace and Skyla. Many cousins, nieces and nephews. Even though work usually came first, he was a loving and generous family man. He absolutely loved his children and grandchildren very much; they were all the light of his life.
Alan graduated from Sidney High School in 1979 and HVCC in 1983. Al was most recently the store manager of the Dollar General store on Chestnut St. in Oneonta, NY, previously managing the Stewarts in Oneonta and worked for Lance and UPS. Before he and Colleen met, he was the owner operator of Mayo's Mini Market in Gouldsboro PA in the Pocono Mountains. Alan especially had very fond memories of his years working for Victory Markets / Great American. That is where he and Colleen met, at the Great American in Cooperstown and were married at the Lake front Park in Cooperstown in 1995. Alan also loved his cats and was somewhat of a "cat whisperer". Until recently he enjoyed deer hunting on the family farm in Sidney Center with his family. Alan could talk sports and their stats ad nauseam, but most enjoyably with his brother in-law Chuck. He also loved to buy, sell and talk stocks with anyone that would listen. It was uncanny how he could remember who people were and what they typically would buy. Some of his favorite family phrases are "The answer is…." and "hey now". He will surely be missed by everyone that knew him or interacted with him in any way.
Alan was predeceased by a brother, Rodney, his father and mother, Norman and Helen Mayo (Walley), and father in-law Robert Bradt, multiple cats and a beloved goat "Molly".
