M. Thereasa DeMatteo, 91, of Bainbridge, passed away peacefully Friday afternoon, October 29, 2010 at her home. Thereasa was born on October 19, 1919, daughter of the late Carmen and Marietta (Fazzone) Caracciolo in Tunnel, NY. She was a graduate of Otego High School. On April 28, 1940, Thereasa married Emelio "Chief" DeMatteo in Sidney. He predeceased her on May 4, 2006. Thereasa was a long time member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, Bainbridge. She was a wonderful, caring wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and will be greatly missed by all who loved her.
Thereasa is survived by:
Two sons: John DeMatteo of Sidney, James DeMatteo and his wife, Tracy of Bainbridge
Brother, Bastine "Bucky" Caracciolo of Sidney
Sister, Phyllis Carnes of Harrisburg, PA
2 granddaughters, Johanna DeMatteo and her fianc, Jay Burtz and Danielle DeMatteo
2 grandsons, Matthew DeMatteo and his wife, Molly, and James DeMatteo and his wife, Beth
5 great grandchildren: Ben DeMatteo, Evan DeMatteo, Leah DeMatteo, Emma DeMatteo and Katerina DeMatteo
As well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to her husband, Thereasa was predeceased by her son, Michael C. DeMatteo on September 1, 1973; her brother, Louis Caracciolo, and two sisters, Frances Cullen and Marguerite Raudibaugh.
Friends are invited to call on Tuesday, November 2, 2010 from 11:00am-1:00pm at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 1:30pm at St. John The Evangelist Catholic Church in Bainbridge, with Fr. Mark Gantley as celebrant. Burial will follow at Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Thereasa's name may be directed to Hospice & Palliative Care of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St. Norwich, NY 13815.
