Barbara Ann (Lieber) (Tanner) Smith, 83, of Afton, NY passed away on November 5, 2022, at Bridgewater Nursing Home, Binghamton, NY.
Barbara was born in Kearny, NJ, to August Lieber and Mary Boriek on August 5, 1939.She went to school in Raritan, Bridgewater Township, NJ and then to Nursing school in Somerville, NJ to become an LPN. She worked as an LPN at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich, NY for many years. Later, she enjoyed bartending in both Sidney and Afton, NY. She often joked that the people in the bars were sicker than the ones in the hospital.
She is survived by her husband of 38+ years, Larry Smith of Afton, NY, her sister Loretta Flagg, Hopewell, NJ, her brother August and Joan Lieber, Loxahatchee, Fl, her son Matthew Tanner, Afton, NY her daughter Michele and Walter Fortune, Clyde, NY, along with several grand and greatgrandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, Raritan, NJ and her ex-husband Michael Tanner, Newport News, VA, formerly of Afton, NY.
The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the caregivers at Bridgewater Nursing Home for their care in her final days. Per Barbara's wishes, she will be cremated and there will be no funeral services.
