Clarence F. Burnett
Afton, NY
Clarence F. Burnett "Bucky", 85, of Afton, passed away early Tuesday morning, October 12, 2010 at the New York State Veterans Home in Oxford with his loving daughters, June and Natalie, by his side. Clarence was born on February 24, 1925, son of the late Carl and Ida (Rummell) Burnett in Masury, Ohio. Clarence was honorably discharged from the US Navy in 1945, having served on the Battleship Massachusetts as a Seaman First Class, as well as in the Asiatic Pacific Theater. He was a lifetime member of VFW Post 3529 in Afton. Clarence was the steward of the park in Afton. He took great pride in that park, and spent much of his time on its upkeep. After thirty years of volunteering his service, he was honored by having the park named after him as Burnett Park. He was the owner of B&M Gas Service in Afton, dealing propane, and also worked at Borden's Chemical Company in Bainbridge for a time. On September 27, 1945, Clarence married Joyce Shupe in Afton, and together, they raised his family, which was the most important thing in his life.
Clarence is survived by:

Services will be private and at the convenience of the family with burial in Eastside Cemetery in Afton, at which time full military honors will be rendered. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, you remember Clarence instead by paying an act of kindness to someone in need: Clarence deeply believed in doing good for others and "paying it forward". Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.landersfh.com.
Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney.
