Richard (Jake) J. Shofkom Sr., 73, of Masonville, NY, passed away on October 14, 2022 at home with his family. Richard was born in Sidney, NY to George and Nancy Shofkom on December 28, 1948. At the age of 4, Richard and family moved to Washingtonville, NY where he went to Washingtonville High School and graduated in 1967. He was then drafted in to the United States Army in 1968. After returning home from Germany where he served in the Army, Richard worked for Highland Telephone Company. Richard started out as an installer- repair man and retired from Frontier as a fiber optic Cable Splicer in 1997. He was a member of the Town of Montgomery Jaycees in Walden, NY and the Moose Lodge 277 in Sidney, NY. Richard is survived by his beloved wife Gisela of Masonville, NY. His daughters, Heidi Hinkley, Elke Riopel, and son, Richard J. Shofkom Jr. Their spouses, Andrew Hinkley, Raymond Riopel, and Angela Shofkom. 8 grandchildren Gabriella Chase, Simon Dear, Catie and Raylan Riopel, Cameron, Wyatt, Hunter, and Azalea Shofkom. 1 great grandchild, Charlotte Elizabeth Chase. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital at http://www.stjude.org. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all the WONDERFUL nurses at Hospice and the case worker, Tracy Graney, who made the hospice arrangements.
