Bernice Gaydorus of Afton, NY and Las Vegas, NV, 88 years old, went to be with the Lord on May 1, 2022. She is predeceased by her parents, Erwin and Marcia Gillar, sister Norma Dixson Calvin and beloved granddaughter Nikiah Gaydorus. She is survived by her loving husband of 67 years Charles Gaydorus, her cherished children; Christine Schlottman (Eric), Steve Gaydorus (Donna), Alan Gaydorus (Colleen), and Glenn Gaydorus (Lenora); beloved grandchildren: Jonathan Schlottman (Angela), Kit Gaydorus, Rebekah Schlottman, Bethany Foxworth (Kevin), Kevin Gaydorus, Cali Gaydorus, Danielle Gaydorus (Deepak Sihag), Sayde Gaydorus, Brandon Gaydorus, Matthew Gaydorus and Shyahna Gaydorus; and treasured great grandchildren: Luke, Elise and Andrew Schlottman. Berny was born in Sidney, NY and graduated from Sidney High School. She and her husband Charlie met in town at the Hillcrest Roller Rink and soon after were married, holding the reception at their dairy farm in Nineveh. Berny completed nursing school, first at Binghamton State Hospital School of Nursing and then Metropolitan Hospital on Welfare Island in Manhattan. She would later graduate from Oneonta College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education and Hartwick College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing. She worked at hospitals and doctors' offices but her favorite job was as a school nurse at Guilford Elementary School. Her whole life was devoted to caring for others. Raising her family first in Nineveh and then in Afton after Charlie purchased Horton Hardware in 1959. Berny was a consummate mother, wife and homemaker. Her life's happiest times were spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was always cooking, baking and putting up fresh picked berries or vegetables from the garden. She was famous for her pies and loved to make them with her grandkids. Her kindness and gentle strength were a gift to all. Berny was a small-town gal yet she loved to visit new places, even travelling five times to Ecuador to visit her daughter and family there. You could always depend on her to be there when you needed her. Berny was a steady and loving presence in the lives of her family and her friends. She has several cherished lifelong friends with whom she enjoyed going on trips, attending reunions and exchanging notes and letters. Calling hours will be Friday, June 24 from 3-5pm at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, with a memorial service held at 5:00 pm at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers kindly consider a donation to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
