Obituary of Dorothy H. Drotar
Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Dorothy Kozlowski Drotar, of Sidney, NY, passed away on February 1, 2022. It was a delight for her to have been able to celebrate her one hundredth birthday with her children and grandchildren and niece this past Christmas, and on FaceTime with many more family and friends.
Born on December 25, 1921, in Utica N.Y. Dorothy was the daughter of Catherine Zajac and Louis Kozlowski. In 1941, Dorothy married Peter R. Drotar and together they raised six children.
Dorothy's generosity with both her time and her exquisite gifts lovingly crafted for family members knew no bounds. Treasured for a lifetime are her colorful homemade afghans that continue to wrap her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren in her warmth and unwavering love. Her hand-crafted ceramic Christmas trees passed down through each family continue to bring joy to little ones each Christmas season.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Peter R. Drotar in 2001, two sons, Peter L. Drotar and Richard Drotar, son-in-law Larry St. John, sisters Marjorie Weaver (Jim) and Irene Rabert (Frank) and half siblings Clara Sliwinski (Gordy) and Robert Kozlowski.
Left to cherish her memory are her children, Donna St. John, Paul Drotar (Betty), David Drotar, Karen Drotar (Anne), daughter-in-law Betty Drotar, brother Lou Kozlowski (Shirley), eight grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 3 great, great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
We would especially like to thank all of the caring and skilled nurses and staff at St. Camillus as well as Hospice for all of their love and support.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30am on Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Sacred Heart Church, 15 Liberty St. Sidney. Burial in Prospect Hill Cemetery will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Dorothy's name may be directed to Hospice of CNY.
