Mary J. Leonard 8/1/36-7/21/21 (11 days shy of turning 85)
Mary Chilletti Leonard, 84, of Bainbridge, NY, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2021 at Wilson Hospital, Binghamton, NY. Mary was born in Binghamton General Hospital to the late Dominic and Lucille (Grogan) Chilletti on August 1,1936.
Mary married the love of her life, Robert "Jim" Leonard on November 18, 1960. They spent 60 wonderful years together raising their 3 children. As a newlywed, you could find Mary working on The Leonard Family farm. Throughout the years, she loved to read, cook with new recipes and spend time loving on her grandchildren. After selling the farm, Mary and Jim enjoyed spending their time as Snow-birds in Florida. They even adventured on a couple of cruises. Mary met life-long friends wherever she traveled. She was a warm, kind, beautiful woman.
Mary is survived by her husband, Jim; daughter Melinda (Lincoln) Groat, Bainbridge, NY; Son Jim Jr. (Julie) Leonard, Bainbridge, NY; and daughter Melissa (Ray) Baker, Sidney, NY. Also survived by one brother Bill Chilletti, Cranford, NJ; one sister Grace Velasco, Binghamton, NY and two sisters-in-law: Barbara Bowker, Rockdale, NY and Nancy Miner, Norwich, NY. Surviving are many nieces, nephews and special friends near and far.
Mary was Grandma to 12 grandchildren and GiGi to 22 great-grandchildren. She cherished every single minute spent making memories with them.
She was preceded in death by her sister Joanne Sobers, brother Stephen Chilletti, nieces Jackie Hallenback and Beverly Hartwell-Sowersby; and infant great granddaughter Chelsi Snell.
Friends are invited to call from 5:00-8:00pm on August 5, 2021 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. A Memorial Mass will be held at 11:00am on August 6th at Sacred Heart Church, 15 Liberty St. Sidney. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge. Memorial donations may be made to: Delaware Valley Humane Society, 101 Main St., Sidney, NY 13838 or Greenlawn Cemetery, 13 Evans St., Bainbridge, NY 13733.
