John R. Blackman Franklin, NY John R. Blackman, 69, of Smithfield, VA; formerly of Franklin, NY, passed away on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at his residence after a courageous battle with kidney cancer. John was born on September 14, 1940, in Walton, NY, the son of the late Vanley and Letha (Strong) Blackman. He married Virginia L. Greene on October 27, 1962 in Treadwell, NY. John was a former inspector for ECD Bendix in Sidney NY; a former Livestock Nutritionist for Youngs, Inc., Roaring Springs, PA; and retired in June, 2003, after serving 30 years for the U.S. Postal Service in Meridale, NY. He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Smithfield, VA. John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He enjoyed dancing, socializing with family and friends, and working outdoors. His family and grandchildren held a special place in his heart. John is survived by: Wife of 47 years, Virginia Blackman of Smithfield Daughter, Lori Robinson and her husband, Richard of Smithfield Two grandchildren: Bridget Cruz and husband, Javier of Molesworth, England and Cody Robinson of Smithfield Brother, Richard Blackman and wife, Lois of Walton Mother-in-law, Marion Greene of Franklin Sisters and brothers in-law, Richard and Joan LaBar, Allen and Carol Greene, Roy and Bett Stiefel, Joseph and Susan Taggart, Debra Greene, Timothy Greene and Donna DeCarr Cousin and wife, Glen and Joann Pomeroy As well as several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Family and Friends may call on Monday, August 2, between 6 and 8 pm at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street, Sidney, NY, at which time the family will be in attendance. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 3, at 2:00 pm at C.H. Landers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in John's memory may be made to Trinity United Methodist Church, 201 Cedar Street, Smithfield, VA, 23430.
