Obituary of Nancy V. Fiske
Please share a memory of Nancy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Nancy V. (Metzner) Fiske, of Bainbridge, NY, passed away peacefully at Wilson Hospital in Johnson City, NY on March 11, 2021 following a brief illness. She was 75 years old.
Nancy was born on August 9, 1945 to Navy LCDR Franklin and Ethel (Hand) Metzner. She grew up in Corpus Christi, TX, and attended college at Texas Tech University. She earned her degree in Food Technology and Agriculture in 1968, a time when women were just beginning to make in-roads into male dominated industries. Early in her career she worked for Marriott in their foods division, and was among the first female brewers at Miller Beer.
In 1994, she married Howard Fiske and soon after they moved to upstate NY. It was here that Nancy and Howard pursued their passion for flying. They spent many hours, and made many friends, at the Sidney Municipal Airport. They were very active in the Fagan’s Flyers, and Nancy earned her private pilot’s license in 1995.
Their new community afforded Nancy new opportunities in her professional life. She will be well remembered for her many years as an English instructor at SUNY Oneonta, and more recently as a real estate agent.
She is survived by her brother, Franklin (Pamela) Metzner; her stepsons, Thomas and Edward (Betty) Fiske; her stepdaughter, Tracy (Gregory) Hillebrand; and many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Nancy was predeceased by her husband, Howard; her stepsons, Howard Jr. and Raymond (Harriet) Fiske; and her stepdaughter, Marion (Bruce) Reynolds.
