Gary L. Pressler, age 80, of Unadilla, passed away in Vestal, New York on February 22, 2021 unexpectedly. He was born in Fort Scott, Kansas on November 5, 1940 to John W. Pressler and Laverne M. (Hueston) Pressler.
Gary graduated from DeSoto High School DeSoto, Kansas and attended University of Kansas for two years. He proudly served his country in United States Air Force and was stationed at Hancock Field, Syracuse, New York. He was employed by IBM as a Customer Service Engineer for 30 years servicing equipment in many area companies. In retirement Gary worked for Sidney Central and Bainbridge-Guilford school districts as a bus driver. Gary was employed by the Village of Sidney at the Sidney Airport where he enjoyed his love of flying and was also a member of the Fagan Flyers. He was a partner with his wife in Frames & Things in Unadilla for 20 years.
Gary took pride in his service with the Sidney Fire Department as a member of the Sidney Volunteer Emergency Squad for 15 years. He was instrumental in acquiring funds from his employer, IBM, to purchase the first "jaws of life" for the Fire Department. Gary was a member of the Sidney Masonic Lodge #801. He was a good neighbor and friend to many, and always willing to help solve a problem or help with a project. His most recent interest was taking care of his beloved feline friends.
Gary is survived by Sarah, wife of 57 years and their children Dr. Michelle A. Pressler (William) Ward of Rockton, Illinois, and Lizanne (David) Niermeyer of Walton, New York; grandchildren Donald C. Hughes III of Des Moines, Iowa; Tiffany Romanik (Corey Jones), Scott (Ashley) Niermeyer, Sarah (Heath) Cummings, Aarika (Nathan) Nybeck, sister Carolyn (Gerald) Schrauger of Newark Valley, New York, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Gary's name may be made to Sidney United Methodist Church 12 Liberty Street, Sidney, New York 13838 or Delaware Valley Humane Society 101 E. Main Street Sidney, New York.
