Obituary of Berta H. Pelton

Berta H. Pelton, 85, of Nineveh, NY went to be with her Lord on January 21, 2021 surrounded by her loving family. Berta was born in Kelsterbach, Germany to Emma and Wilhelm Haas on April 27, 1935. She legally immigrated to the United States in 1957 and became a naturalized citizen. Berta worked for the Afton Central School District for over 25 years, volunteering in her children's classrooms prior to her employment. When she wasn't working for the school, she was the consummate homemaker, engaging in growing, harvesting, and preserving many fruits and vegetables, as well as sewing, crocheting, and making many beautiful quilts. She loved her family well and enjoyed nature, watching the many deer, turkeys, and birds that would visit her backyard. Berta is survived by her loving husband, John; her son, Doug (Theresa) Pelton of Montrose, PA; her daughter, Mary (Scott) Williams of Maryville, TN; four grandsons: Daniel (Aria) Williams, Christopher Williams, Eric Williams, and Nathaniel Williams. She is also survived by her sister, Edith Fox, of Conroe, TX, and brother, Hans Haas of Germany. She was predeceased by her parents and several siblings. A memorial service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Afton, where Berta was a member, on Saturday, January 30, 2021 at 10:00am. A private graveside service will be held in Middletown, NY. The family would like to thank Dr. Yalamanchili, Lourdes Hospice, and Mercy House of Endicott for their kindness and compassionate care.
