Obituary of James E. Percival

Please share a memory of James to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
James E. Percival, 92, of Mt. Upton, passed away on Thursday, January 7, 2021 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born on October 3, 1928 in Sidney, son of the late Everett and Florence (Tobey) Percival. Jim served his country in the US Army from 1949 until his honorable discharge in 1953. That same year, he was married to Rita Cotter in Utica, NY. They shared 64 years of marriage before she predeceased him in 2016. He was a devoted member, and Past Chief, of Borden Hose Fire Co. for 71 years, and a member of the Mt. Upton American Legion. Jim also was a CDL Instructor for BOCES for 20 years. Two of Jim's greatest dreams were a new lawn tractor, and to own a 1943 Army Jeep, and fortunately in the past few years, he was able to achieve both. Jim is survived by his three children: Shelly (Steven) Alger, Jim (Cheryl) Percival and Penny (Mike) Currie; 8 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. His family would like to thank Hospice for their care and compassion, especially his nurse Jenny. Jim always looked forward to her visits. They would also like to thank neighbors Lou and Theresa; they were always there for Jim. He looked forward to their pumpkin bread every Tuesday. Graveside services will be held in the spring in Godfrey Cemetery, Guilford. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his memory may be directed to Hospice of Chenango County, 21 Hayes St. Norwich, NY 13815.
