Dorothy K. Hale SIDNEY-- Dorothy K. Hale, better known as "Dot", passed away on Friday, October 23, 2020 at Sullivan County Adult Care Center in Liberty, NY, just two months shy of her 106th birthday. She was born on December 25, 1914 in Liberty, daughter of the late Burt and Lydia (Austin) Calkin. On October 9, 1938, she was married to Raymond J. Hale in Monticello. Together, they settled in Sidney, and owned and operated Hale's Stationery Store on Main Street from 1945 until retiring in 1978. Ray predeceased her the following year. Following Ray's passing, Dot enjoyed the company of friend and companion, Bill Bure, for many years before his passing in 2001. Dot was a long time member of the Sidney United Methodist Church, and the B.P.O.E. Auxiliary, Sidney Lodge. A grand lady, she will be missed by: nephews: Neal and Lucilla Calkin and James and Karen Murphy; niece, Katherine Calkin and niece-in-law, Teddy Calkin. In addition to her parents and husband, Dot was predeceased by her brother Dale Calkin in 2001, nephew, Robert Calkin, nephew-in-law, Bill Traxler. Friends are invited to call from 10:00am to 11:00am on Tuesday, October 27, 2020 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838.
