Obituary of Alice Helen Berny

Alice Berny, 85, of Sidney, NY passed away on July 18, 2020 at Norwich Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Norwich NY. She was born on January 9, 1935 in North Bellmore, NY to parents Frederick and Alice (McCarthy) Friedel. Alice married Herman Berny on May 20, 1956 in Freeport, NY. She is survived by her children: Patricia Alongi, Mary Inguaggiato (Antonio), Martin Berny; grandchildren: Fred Becker (Heather), Jennifer Alongi, Allysin Inguaggiato, Kerianna Berny, Phil Delvecchio (Liz); great grandchildren: Madison, Freddie, Jackson, and Makenna Becker, Isabella Hull; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, daughter and son-in-law, Alice Becker (Fred) as well as brothers William, Frederick, Andrew, John. Alice showed great pride on the upkeep of her home of almost 50 years. Her door was always open and the coffee pot on for her friends and neighbors to stop by for a quick chat or a shoulder to cry on. After raising their own kids Alice and Herman graciously opened their loving arms to their first grandchild after losing their daughter and son-in-law in a horrific auto accident. That loving generosity continued as she provided a home for many family and friends in their time of need. Alice, or Gram as she was affectionately called quickly became a second Grandma to her large extended family. She will always be remembered for her friendly smile, gentle yet strong willed spirit, and the willingness to help all she encountered. Alice loved seeing and listening to her great grandchildren's scouting adventures. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Alice's memory may be directed to Boy Scout Troop 88, 16 Hatfield Ave Sidney, NY 13838. Services and burial will be private.
