Obituary of Dorothy May Ross
Please share a memory of Dorothy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
June 29, 2020 Dorothy (York) Ross (87) left this world to reunite with her husband, whom she has missed every day for the past 20 years. Dorothy was born in Brooklyn NY where she and her siblings survived many hard times, including the death of her mom when she was three. Her dad died when she was twelve, leaving her to finish growing-up in an orphanage without her siblings. Dorothy eventually found her way to Oneonta, NY to work in a nursing home, where a friend introduced her to the love of her life, Kingsley Ross. Life was being kinder, and she was even reunited with her siblings, whom she had not seen since her father's passing.
Dorothy and Kingsley built a life together in Coventryville, N.Y. It was here that they flipped an old, rundown house into a beautiful home, where they raised their four children. Tragically, a fire took their beloved home ten years later and Dorothy supported her family through the loss with humor and determination until they were able to create a new space.
Dorothy enjoyed crafts, crocheting, reading, gardening, true crime shows, classic country songs, and spending time with her family. Dorothy had a very big personality, she was sassy and spoke her mind without apology, but she was also kind to those in need and if you were lucky enough to be in her heart, her love was enormous!
Dorothy was predeceased by her mother and father, Anna (Rudolph) and Albert York, Brothers Ernest and George York, Sister Catherine (York) Corrigan, and her beloved Husband, Kingsley Ross.
She leaves behind Daughter, Penny (Ross) Stevens, granddaughter, Irene and Daniel Sackett, great granddaughters Samantha and Michaela and granddaughter, Audrey and Eric Brakeman, great granddaughter Ashley, and four great, great grandchildren (South Carolina). Daughter Barbara (Ross) and Allen Castle, grandson Christopher and Denise Castle and great grandchildren Alyssa, Caitlyn, Alyson, Jacob, and Wyatt, granddaughter Jennifer Castle (Bainbridge, NY) Son Timothy and Joyce Ross, grandsons Joshua, Jeremy, Jayson, and Jacob Ross (Florida) great grandchildren Danielle, Isaac, Sarah, and Ariana, Daughter June (Ross) and Cathy Zindle (Coventryville, NY) grandson Justin Zindle (Norwich, NY) granddaughters Rebecca Kolis (McGraw) and Jessica Kolis great granddaughters Ava and Ella (Coventryville)
