Helen B. Weeden Sidney, NY Helen B. Weeden, 107 and long time resident of Sidney, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 12, 2010 at her home. Helen was born on July 17, 1902, daughter of the late Albert and Amy (Sprague) Brown in Gouverneur, NY. Helen obtained her teaching degree from Potsdam State Normal School and went on to teach for 34 years, retiring from Sidney Elementary School in June of 1964. She was married to Guy K. Weeden on July 30, 1927. He predeceased her on June 9, 1967. Following retirement, Helen served on the Board of Education of the Sidney Central School District from 1981 until 1987. During her extensive education career, Helen received numerous commendations for her accomplishments. Helen was a long time member of the First Congregational Church of Sidney and was actively involved in teaching Sunday school. For her 107th birthday, Helen received recognition for being New York State's oldest retired teacher. Helen is survived by: Her daughter, Esther Davidson of San Rafael, CA 2 Grandsons: Andrew and Berenice Davidson of San Rafael, CA Ronald and Yoko Davidson of Los Angeles, CA 3 Great Grandchildren: Natalia and Andrs Davidson of San Rafael, CA and Saya Davidson of Los Angeles, CA Nephew, Peter C. Brown Niece, Marcia Brown Schmickebier Long time caregiver, Mary Margaret Gillow In addition to her husband, Guy and her parents, Helen was predeceased by her son, Edward A. Weeden on July 15, 1992, as well as her brother, Ralph Brown. A memorial service for Helen will be held at 11:00am on Monday, June 21, 2010 at the First Congregational Church of Sidney. Burial will take place in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Norwich. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Helen's name may be directed to either the Delaware Valley Humane Society, 101 East Main St. Sidney, NY 13838 or to Catskill Area Hospice & Palliative Care, 1 Birchwood Dr. Oneonta, NY 13820.
