George Edward Haynes, Sr., 77, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, March 10, 2020. George was born on August 5, 1942 in Afton, NY.
George was predeceased by his son, Patrick J. Haynes, parents Stanley and Mabel (Loomis) Haynes, sister Mary Jane (Haynes) Gridley.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years Shirley (Anna) (Naab) Haynes, children George (Lisa) Haynes, Jr., Paul (Pamela) Haynes, Janice (James) Rideout, and Michael Haynes, siblings Wilbur (Dorothy) Haynes, Bertha (Rudolph) Orlando, Stephen Haynes, Roger (Charlotte) Haynes, Myron (Patricia) Haynes, seven grandchildren as well as nieces and nephews.
George was a lifetime resident of Afton and spent most of his working years serving the public as a small engine mechanic at Horton Hardware in Afton. He enjoyed working on small engines so much that after retirement he continued working on them at his home. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Afton where he faithfully served the Lord for more than 50 years.
George enjoyed providing for his family by having a small hobby farm with large gardens and later in life enjoyed being with his grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at The First Baptist Church of Afton in the Family Life Center at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 16, 2020. A burial service at Glenwood Cemetery in Afton will follow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Building Fund of the First Baptist Church of Afton, 30 Caswell Street, Afton, NY 13730.
