Sidney Arthur Cunningham
Masonville—Sidney Arthur Cunningham, 81, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 20, 2019 from injuries sustained in an accident at home.
Sid was born on April 2, 1938 in Brooklyn, NY to Edward G. and Barbara (Kraus) Cunningham. He moved to Masonville and attended Sidney High School and graduated from Deposit.
He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on January 7, 1958 and was honorably discharged as a Corporal on January 6, 1961. He worked for many years as a computer operator for Mitsubishi in New York City and then in the office at Victory Market. It was at that time that he met JoAnn Monroe, who he married on December 18, 1976, recently celebrating their 43rd wedding anniversary.
Sid was a self taught baker; he had a passion for baking that dated all the way back to his childhood. He owned and operated Sid C's Special Breads in Masonville for many years, having to retire a few years ago due to health issues. He also enjoyed caring for his vegetable garden, playing poker, and in his younger years, hunting.
He is survived by: his wife, JoAnn Cunningham of Masonville; children: Mark Cunningham of New Mexico, Laura and Harry Kelly of Sidney, Sarah and Les VanValkenburgh of Masonville, JoAnn and Paul Miller, Jr. of Masonville and Daniel and Jamie Cunningham of Masonville; grandchildren: Jamie, Sammie, Emilie, Haylie, Sydnie, Kimberly, Sofia, Montanya, Kordel, Brandon, Ethan, Allen, Ben, Jeffrey and Kyle; great grandchildren, Derek and Christopher, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Barbara Cunningham; his son, Jason Robert Cunningham; four siblings: John Cunningham, Sarah Lynn, Edward Cunningham and Mary Hulbert; and by a nephew, Gregory Westbrook.
Friends are invited to call from 11:00am to 1:00pm on Tuesday, December 24th at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will follow at 1:00pm at the funeral chapel. Burial with military honors will be held in the spring in Masonville Cemetery.
