Robert F. Newman
Robert F. Newman Jr., 87, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2019, at his home in Unadilla, NY. He was born in Bainbridge, NY. The son of Robert F. Newman, Sr. and Versa (Hall) Newman. Bob was raised in Sidney, NY by his beloved sisters Ruthie Tuttle and Leona Ellis after the passing of his parents.
Robert married Hazel (Woods). Who predeceased him in 2001.
Early in his adult life, Bob worked with harness horses for several different owners. A passion he carried with him his entire life. After his marriage, he went to work on the Woods' family farm. After farming, he went to work for McDowell & Walker from where he retired. Bob and Hazel retired to Travelers Rest, SC. where Bob continued to work part-time in his privately owned landscape business.
Bob, was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Sidney, NY where he served as Governor. He was a past member of the Bainbridge Volunteer Fire Department.
He is survived by his son, Jeffrey R. Newman (Katherine), His grandchildren, Eric (Beth) and Jason Swart. Matthew, Tyler, Cassidy and Morgan Newman. His great-grandchildren, Trevor, Jasmine, and Travis Swart. Robert was predeceased by his daughter, Versa Swart, and his sisters Ruthie and Leona.
An enthusiastic supporter of Unatego Central School. Bob enjoyed attending his grandchildren's athletic events, dance recitals, and school functions. He greatly enjoyed taking morning walks at the Sidney Veterans Memorial Park nature trails, playing golf and gardening.
Friends may call Thursday, September 19th, from 4:00 - 7:00 pm at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. A celebration of life will immediately follow at the Wells Bridge Fire Department. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Unatego Spartan Booster Club, 2641 State Highway 7, Otego, NY 13825.
