Crystal Linn (Martindale) Hartwell, 57, of Sidney, NY, passed away unexpectedly on September 12, 2019 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown.
Crystal was born in Oneonta, NY to Harold and Thelma (Stilson) Martindale on March 31, 1962. She went to high school at Sidney High School and graduated in 1980. She worked at Tri Town Nursery School while she received her associates degree in Early Childhood Education. From there she went on to work as the preschool teacher at DCMO BOCES, Harrold Campus for 19 years. She loved and touched the lives of each child that walked through her classroom doors.
Crystal had a genuine love for life, she put her heart and soul into everything she did. Her family was the most important thing to her and she loved them more than anything, especially her grand daughter, she was the light of her life. Her favorite spot was Myrtle Beach with the sand between her toes and the sun beating down on her, she spent many summers vacationing there with her family. She will always be remembered for her infectious smile and laughter, she loved to laugh. Her strength, courage, wisdom, honesty, love for life, kind heart, and laughter will live on in our memories always.
Crystal is survived by her loving husband of 31 1/2 years, Jeffery Hartwell of Sidney. He was her strength as they walked through life together. She is also survived by her daughter, Angela Combes, son in law Benjamin, and granddaughter Lilliana of Masonville. As well as her mother, Thelma Martindale of Sidney, sister Shelly and Jeff Pendorf of Sidney, brothers Greg and Bonnie Martindale of Sidney, and Jeff and Tracey Martindale of Masonville. She is also survived by her mother and father in law, Jack and Sue Hartwell of Mount Upton, sister in laws Debra and Ricky Stanton of Mount Upton, Dawn and Wayne Hatton of Oxford, and brother in law Dennis Hartwell of Mount Upton. As well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends that she loved very much. She was predeceased by her father, Harold Martindale, both her maternal and paternal grandparents, as well as aunts and uncles.
Friends may call Friday, September 20, 2019 from 2-4pm with a short service to follow, at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St, Sidney.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sidney Emergency Squad in her name.
