Obituary of Raymond C. Wessels

Raymond C. Wessels, 92, of Guilford, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at the A.O. Fox Nursing Home.
He was born on February 16, 1927 in Oxford, son of the late Lawrence and Mary (Carr) Wessels. He served in the US Army and Air Force for four years during World War II. At the time of his honorable discharge, he was a Corporal for the 25th Base Service Squadron 7th Bombardment Group out of Fort Worth, Texas.
Raymond owned and operated the Red & White Store in Guilford for many years, as well as sold real estate and worked at Scintilla. He was a former Assessor for Guilford and Bainbridge. He enjoyed his collection of antique cars and old tractors.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Mary Ann Wessels; daughters: Deborah Karl of Sidney, Teresa Hyzer of Afton, April Crandall of Sidney and Heather and Neil Follett of Afton; grandchildren: Michaela Crandall of Albany; Amanda Hyzer (fiancé, Mark Hulburt) of Afton and her daughters, Keegan and Kendall Winans; Kristi VanWhy of North Carolina and her children, Dustin, Trevar and Peyton; and sister and brother-in-law, Helen and Richard Dickson of Sidney. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his parents, Raymond was predeceased by his brothers and sisters-in-law: Richard and Betty Wessels, Robert and Elsie Wessels and Frank and Myrna Wessels; and his sister and brother-in-law, Mary Lou and John Bickos.

Friends are invited to call from 11:00am to 2:00pm on Saturday, September 14, 2019 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. Burial will be private at a later date in the North Guilford Pioneer Cemetery.
