Please share a memory of Jeanne to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jeanne M. Currie On Saturday, July 27, 2019, Jeanne "Jamie" Marie Currie (née Ogren), 88, of Bainbridge, NY, beloved wife and mother of nine children passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family. She was born on January 7, 1931, to Jeanne Marie (née Kelly) and John Ivar Ogren, and was raised in Brooklyn, NY, where she met her husband of 68 years, John Currie. She graduated from James Madison High school in 1949. She developed a love of the arts at a very young age and she and John were beautiful ballroom dancers. They chose to raise their family on a dairy farm in Bainbridge, where Jamie loved to garden and welcomed as many people to the dinner table as could possibly fit. She was a woman of remarkable strength who triumphed over many challenges in her long life, and greeted everyone with a smile. She accepted everyone without judgment, and her simplest pleasures were hugs and kisses from those she loved, singing, reading, and spending time with her family and friends. Jamie was a devout Catholic who was proud to be a member of the Secular Franciscan Order, a community of Catholics who strive to live their lives in the spirit of Francis of Assisi. She shared her beautiful voice as a part of the choir at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church for years. She worked for many years at Sheffield Products in Norwich, NY, and enthusiastically took up hiking upon her retirement. Jamie was preceded in death by her parents, Jeanne and John Ogren, her sister, Dolores Hoffman, her brothers, John and Peter Ogren, and her beloved children, Heather Ann Currie and Kevin Currie. She always said that her greatest joy and accomplishment was having her children. She is survived by her husband, John Currie, children Scott Currie (Deborah Brown) Bainbridge, NY, Todd Currie (Gabriella), Colorado Springs, CO, Angel Brown, Zephyrhills, FL, Brian Currie, Bainbridge, NY, Lisa Ritter (Brano), North Charleston, SC, Matthew Currie (May Sol Sanchez), Afton, NY, and Christine Zelenak (Francis), Arlington, VA. She also leaves behind her sister, Ronnie Libbey and brother, Kenneth Ogren, several nieces and nephews, and 22 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren. The family will receive visitors at C.H. Landers Funeral Home at 21 Main Street, Sidney, NY on Thursday, Aug. 1 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church at 34 S. Main St. in Bainbridge. After burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, a reception will be held at the church. Condolences and memories may be shared online at www.landersfh.com In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jamie's honor to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, a charity dear to her heart. Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel Sidney, NY.
