Obituary of Peter Brian Hager
Please share a memory of Peter to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Pete Hager passed away peacefully on the morning of April 8, 2019.
He leaves behind his wife of 21 years, Penny (Wormsley) Hager; 2 sons, Tyler and Nathan; 2 daughters, Mary and Caitlin; 4 brothers, Jay, Dan, Tom and Sam; 4 sisters, Barb, Linda, Kathy and "Curly" (Mary), as well as numerous nieces and nephews, neighbors and friends.
Peter B. Hager was born January 24, 1947 to George and Eva (Kellet) Hager. The 6th of 9 children, he grew up on the family farm in Masonville and attended Sidney School.
Pete served his country as an Army MP in Korea during the Vietnam War and returned to the family farm following an honorable discharge in 1968. He remained a devoted Republican and a proud American.
A traditional man, never afraid of hard work, Pete was a valued employee of Mead/Acco for many years while he cared for several head of cattle and other miscellaneous animals on his "hobby farm". He carved out a good life for himself and his family, he cared deeply for the land, and he always made sure everyone had what they wanted and needed.
Recently retired from Acco, Pete dedicated more time to his other interests and long-term projects. He became "Papa" to 'the twins' (Jeffrey and Kimberly Cunningham). Last summer he could be seen driving his 1950 Ford Coup convertible around town and, despite some recent health problems, he had many more projects planned for the upcoming months.
Pete loved golf, farming, crossword puzzles, Bluegrass music and fixing everything. He was a mechanical genius and "could fix everything but the crack of dawn and a broken heart"…He leaves many hearts broken today as we say farewell to a good man.
