Ronald Williams AFTON--Ronald Williams, 83, passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018 at Willow Point Nursing Home in Vestal. Ron was born on December 30, 1934 in Scranton, PA, son of the late David H. Williams, Jr. and Marjorie (Davies) Williams. He graduated from West Scranton High School in 1952 and his family relocated to Johnson City. He worked for EJ Shoe Factory for four years before beginning his career at Amphenol Corporation in Sidney in 1957. He retired at the end of 1996. On April 24, 1954, he was married to Betty Hurlburt in Susquehanna, PA. Ron was proud to serve in the National Guard for four years. He was a former commander of the Sons of the American Legion in Sidney. Ron loved music, especially country. He played guitar and was a drummer with the American Legion Drum & Bugle Corp. In his youth, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He liked to golf and bowl and was an avid sports fan, particularly the NY Giants and NASCAR's Jeff Gordon. Ron especially loved traveling to Florida to visit the ocean. Ron is survived by his wife of 64 years, Betty Williams; daughter, Sheryl and Marshall Beecher; four grandchildren: Mindy (David McMinn), Benjamin, Rosanna and Shauna; four great-grandchildren: Emily, Bryan, Catie and Nyomi; sister, Dolores Wyak as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, David and Marjorie Williams, Ron was predeceased by his son, Ronald, Jr. At Ron's request, there will be no services. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Delaware Valley Humane Society, 101 E. Main St. Sidney, NY 13838; the Sidney Veterans Memorial Park Association c/o Sidney Community Foundation PO Box 333 Sidney or a Veterans Service organization of one's choice.
