Obituary of Michael Francis Rode

BAINBRIDGE--Michael "Mickey" Francis Rode passed away on 11/05/2018 in Sidney, NY at the age of 65. Michael is survived by his wife Margaret "Peggy" Rode; his children Daniel, Matthew and Alyson and their spouses Kimberly, Shannon and Matthew. In addition Michael had four grandchildren whom he adored. Mickey also leaves behind his brothers Bill and Paul and sisters Linda and Lori and their spouses. Other important family members included Peggy's brothers, sisters and many nieces and nephews on both sides of the family. Michael was born July 17, 1953 in Groton, Connecticut to Francis and Theresa Rode. He graduated from Suffolk Community College and St. Joseph's College. He married the love of his life, Peggy, in August of 1977. He was a longtime resident of Patchogue, NY on Long Island, where he lived and raised his family. Michael was a man of many talents and interests. Professionally he was a Suffolk County Police Officer and business owner. In his youth he loved go-karting and carpentry and in later years also enjoyed a variety of projects, fishing and other outdoor activities. He particularly loved spending time with his family at his beloved property in Upstate New York. Michael had an adventurous spirit, an inquisitive mind and was a life-long learner. He was many things to many people but the role he cherished the most was that of being a husband, father and grandfather. He was a constant source of love and support to his wife and family. Michael had a quote he would use for a very few uniquely special people: "You could go a whole life and not meet another person quite like him or her". These words were never more true than for him. In lieu of flowers, the family would be honored if donations were made in his name or memory to local food pantries, volunteer fire departments or the American Heart Association.
