Raymond W. Holzel, 98, of Franklin, died Thursday, August 30th at his home.
Ray, born in New Jersey, has lived in Franklin for 46 years.
He was a firefighter for the Village of Ridgewood, N.J. for 27 years. He and his wife, Alice, retired to this area in 1972.
After moving here, Ray drove the city bus in Oneonta and a school bus for Franklin. Over the years, he was active in the Knights of Columbus, Elks, Forty and Eight, Eagles, American Legion (where he recently received a pin for his 75 years of continued membership!), S.P.B.E.S.Q.A. and FMBA.
Ray was preceded in death by both parents, William O. and Marie J. Holzel.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Alice, and his two daughters, Judith Lloyd of New Bern, N.C. and Barbara Holzel of Colchester, Vt.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 15 Liberty St. Sidney, and Rev. Fr. Bernard Osei Ampong will officiate.
Burial will be in Ouleout Valley Cemetery in Franklin.
