Howard G. Thompson, 58, of Afton, NY passed away unexpectedly on August 11, 2018 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, NY.
Howard Thompson was born in Sidney, NY on August 30,1959 to Howard M. and Marvel (Wright) Thompson. He was raised in Afton, NY and remained in the area throughout his life. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his brother David B. Thompson. He is survived by his beloved wife of 37 years, Julie A. (Redenback) Thompson; his daughter and son-in-law April and Daniel Sherwood of Port Crane; his cherished grandchildren Mackenzie and Brian Sherwood; his brother John and Kathie Thompson of Mt. Upton, NY; sister Jeanette and Nelson Lord of Silver Springs, FL; several sister and brothers in-law; cousins, nieces and nephews. He will eternally be missed by all.
Howard Thompson began as a cleaner at Bainbridge Guilford School District, progressed to a Maintenance Position, and then advanced to Director of Facilities II. He retired on July 6, 2018 after 38 years of service to the district. Howie was proud to be an Adirondack 46er which he completed with his wife Julie Thompson on September 5, 2004. He enjoyed riding his Harley, hunting, trapping, fishing, and hanging out at his hermitage. Howie was a proud member of the Sidney American Legion Riders Post 183. As part of this organization they raise funds in support of Operation Comfort Warrior.
Friends are invited to call from 6:00-9:00 pm on Tuesday, Aug 14, 2018 at C. H. Landers Funeral Home, 21 Main Street Sidney, NY 13838. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Wednesday Aug 15, 2018 at the funeral home. Interment will be at Glenwood Cemetery in Afton, NY. A bereavement luncheon will follow at the Sidney American Legion Post 183.
In lieu of flowers, friends may make memorial contributions to Operation Comfort Warrior through the Sidney American Legion Post 183.
