Ellsworth B. Matteson

Ellsworth B. Matteson, 89 of Mt. Upton, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at the New York State Veterans' Home in Oxford where he had been a resident for just over a month. Ellsworth was born on April 19, 1920, son of the late Burt and Clara (Keach) Matteson in Rockdale. He graduated from Mt. Upton Central School, and went on to join the US Army, serving from 1944 to 1946. On February 15, 1941, Ellsworth married Eleanor Herrick in Mt. Upton, and they spent 68 years of love and marriage together. Eleanor predeceased him on June 14, 2009. Ellsworth was a longtime employee of Amphenol Corp., working as a machinist for over 40 years. Ellsworth and Eleanor had attended the First Baptist Church of Sidney, as well as the First Baptist Church of Mt. Upton.

Ellsworth is survived by:

Daughter and son-in-law: Patricia and Menahem Lazarowitz of Tel Aviv, Israel

Grandchildren: Jeff and Toba Lazarowitz and Danite and Shy Frenkel

Great Grandchildren: Tom, Mai, Ben and Daniel

4 Sisters: Irene Johnson of Unadilla, Arlyn Wade of Gilbertsville, Ruthie Hoyt of Gilbertsville and Janice Peckham of East Guilford

Sister-in-law Ruth Matteson of Norwich

As well as several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews

In addition to his wife, Ellsworth was predeceased by three brothers, Dever, Keith and Douglas Matteson.

Services will be announced at a later time. Burial will take place in the Maplewood Cemetery, Mt. Upton.
