James F. O'Connor, 93 of Bainbridge passed away peacefully surrounded by his family Friday, July 20, 2018 at Wilson Regional Medical Center in Johnson City.
He was born March 25, 1925, Son of the late James F. and Elizabeth (Carman) O'Connor in Bayshore, NY.
Jim was drafted into the US Army in 1943. He served with the infantry in the European Campaign, including Normandy Ardennes 1945 and Rhineland during WWII. Jim was wounded twice, and received the Purple Heart with oak leaf clusters as well as the EAME with 3 bronze stars, the American Campaign Ribbon, Victory Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged in 1945.
In 1952, Jim married Agnes Hinson, together they raised 7 children.
He worked in maintenance for the Borden Chemical Co. in Bainbridge for over 32 years when he retired.
A man of faith, Jim was a devoted member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Bainbridge. He was also a member of the Afton VFW and a life member of the DAV Chapter 200 in Oneonta.
Jim will be remembered as being kind, compassionate and for his great sense of humor. He was a devoted and loving family man who will be greatly missed.

Children – Michael and Maggie O'Connor, Elizabeth "Betsy" and Alex Gielskie, Joseph O'Connor and Mary Hankey, Eileen and Gary Montesano, Mary Innes and Eric Hull, Dorothy and Patrick Damone and Daniel O'Connor.
Grandchildren – Christopher, Mark, Eric, Samantha, Abby, Molly, Nellie, Ivan (Sondra), Alan (Katherine), Francis, Benjamin, Michael, Joel (Roxanna), Nick, Christine (David), Michael (Anneke) and Tracy
And Many wonderful great grandchildren, nieces and nephews
Friends may call Monday, July 23, 2018 from 4-7 PM at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel 21 Main St. Sidney.
A mass of Christian burial will be held at St. John the Evangelist Church 34 S. Main St. Bainbridge Tuesday, July 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM
Burial with military honors will follow in West Bainbridge Cemetery
