Geneva (Jean) Morenus Sanford passed away July 16, 2018 at her home in Sidney Center following a short battle with cancer.
Jean was born in Sidney Center, NY to Walton and Ada Morenus on February 22, 1929. She attended the Gallop Hill one-room schoolhouse and high school in Sidney, NY graduating in 1945.
Following graduation, Jean worked for Keith Clark and Bendix. Before the birth of her children, she left Bendix to become a homemaker in 1953. She later returned to the workforce, joining the United States Postal Service until her retirement in 1992.
Jean enjoyed raising and tending to her abundant flower gardens. She was a member of the United Methodist church in Sidney Center and recently a parishioner of the Sidney Center Community Church. Jean loved inviting the children of the community into her home, and over the years nearly every child in town learned where she kept the candy.
Jean delighted in her family and put them above all else. She is survived by her brother, Frank (Barbara) Morenus, Vestal, NY; her sister, Joyce Terry, Sidney Center, NY; her sister-in-law Viola Marks, Unadilla, NY; her children Kathryn (James) Fey, Waverly, NY; Joe Gossoo (Debbie Lambrecht), Sidney Center, NY; her grandchildren Nathan (Blaire) Constable, Dublin, OH; Rodney (Kimberly) Constable, Marlboro, NY; Amber Constable, Oneonta, NY; her great-grandchildren Makayla Ruiz, Sidney, NY; Callahan Constable, Dublin, OH; Cecelia Constable, Marlboro, NY; and Parker Constable, Oneonta, NY; her Step-Children Nancy(Buz) Getzke, Apalachin, NY; Elizabeth (Stephen) Collins, Oviedo, FL; Mark (Marcia) Sanford, Vestal, NY; John (Carol) Sanford, Afton, NY; and James Sanford, Trumansburg, NY as well as many nieces and nephews.
Jean was pre-deceased in 1986 by her husband, Rodney Gossoo; her second husband, Elton Sanford in 2006; her sisters, Mildred Patrick, Ruth Morenus, Dorothy St. John and Beatrice Patterson, and brother, Ralph (Ike) Morenus.
A graveside service will be held at the Highland Cemetery in Sidney Center on July 29, 2018 at 12:30 p.m. with celebration of life at 1:00 p.m. at the Maywood Historical O&W Depot in Sidney Center.
