Betty E. Striegler
Unadilla, NY
Betty died peacefully in her sleep in the comforts of her home on her 81 birthday, July 11, 2018. Betty was born in Bainbridge, the daughter of Danish immigrants Fred and Ingeborg Striegler. She had the opportunity to visit family in Denmark a couple times during the 1960s and often spoke about her visits and the culture. She was very proud of her Danish heritage. Betty said what she thought and thought what she said, a true characteristic of a Dane. You always knew where you stood with her.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed crossword puzzles and her television shows. Anyone who knew her knew not to call her during her programs. She enjoyed discussing shows with her dear friend Mimi and having lunch with Mimi and the other ladies who retired from Amphenol, where Betty worked for 36 years. Betty was very generous and rarely turned down an offer to go out to dinner. Her sister, Sonja, said Betty lived to eat, she didn't eat to live. She loved to cook traditional meals and coach others on the techniques of baking Danish Christmas cookies. Her family enjoyed her spirit for passing on Danish traditions.
Betty is predeceased by her parents, her brother, Harold Striegler, sisters, Gloria Smith and Sonja Striegler. She is survived by her sister-in-law, Shirley Striegler of Frankfort and brother, Holger (Corky) Striegler and niece, Kay Striegler of Bainbridge along with several other nieces, nephews, great and great-great-nieces and nephews, as well as dear friends Mimi, Roger, Dottie and Clyde.
Friends may call Sunday, July 22 from 1-3 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Everyone is welcome to continue the celebration of Betty's life at the farm in Bainbridge immediately after. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
Betty was very stubborn and resisted change. Thanks to her dear neighbors, Dottie and Clyde, she was able to continue to live out her life in her home of over 40 years. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dottie and Clyde Utter for being wonderful neighbors to Betty for many years.
Memorial contributions can be made to Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge, Delaware Valley Humane Society, Sidney or Union Valley Church, West Bainbridge.
