Florence Jane Harris, entered her Heavenly home, Wednesday, June 13, 2018 at Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center, Rochester, NY. She was surrounded by her loving family during her final days.
Jane was born in Johnson City, NY, May 15, 1929 to Beatrice Manning Clark and Clarence Eston Clark. After High School, she attended Practical Bible College in Johnson City, and graduated from Ridley Secretarial School in Binghamton, NY. Jane began working at Scintilla/Bendix in Sidney, NY. It was there she met her future husband, Robert Harris. They resided in Unadilla for the next 30 years. Jane was a devoted wife and mother. She was later employed by Unatego Central as Secretary for the Unadilla Elementary School. Jane enjoyed her work serving staff and community before retiring in 1980.
Jane was an active member of the (former) Federated Presbyterian, and Unadilla Baptist churches. She was also involved in Women's Club, Eastern Star, and served as a Girl Scout leader. She and Bob enjoyed many summers in the Adirondacks and at their camp on Wellesley Island, Fineview, NY. Together, they took Power Squadron classes, ballroom dance lessons, camped, hiked, traveled and enjoyed memorable times with friends and family. After retirement, Jane and Bob moved to Liverpool, NY; they also resided in Oneida Castle, NY, Melbourne, FL, and Crozet, VA . More recently, Jane lived at The Plains in Oneonta and in North Rose, NY.
Jane was predeceased by her husband, Robert, in 2012; infant daughter, Barbara Grace; her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Norman Lindsley; brother, Rev. Dr. Jack M. Clark; a nephew, Jack Clark, Jr.; and brother-in-law, John R. Harris.
She leaves behind a brother, Donald (& Mary) Clark, Dunedin, FL, sisters-in-law, Marjorie Y. Clark, Oneonta, NY, and Arabelle Harris, Blossvale, NY, and cherished nieces and nephews.
Also surviving, daughters: Laureen (Daniel) FitzGerald, Newtown Square, PA (formerly North Rose, NY), Pamela (James) Lett, Columbus, OH, and Patti (Brad) Perks, Troy, VA; beloved 8 grandchildren: Julie (Jeff) Schell, Heather F. Pat, Jonathan (Amy) Lett, Jameson (Crystal) Lett, Suzanne (Garrett) Marshall, Lauren Lett, Stephen (Makenzie) Perks, David (Meredith) Perks; 6 great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Hildebrandt Hospice Care Center, 2652 Ridgeway Avenue, Rochester, NY 14626. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Rochester General Staff, Lifetime Care and the Hildebrandt Hospice staff for their fine care and support.
The family will receive guests at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main Street, Sidney, NY, on Saturday, August 4, 2018. Visitation 1:00-2:00 P.M., followed by a Celebration of Life service at 2:00 P.M. Share condolences with the family online at www.landersfh.com.
