Gerald C. Walker, Jr. Sidney, NY Gerald Curtis Walker, Jr., 82 of Sidney, passed away on Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at Albany Medical Center Hospital in Albany. Gerald was born on July 5, 1927, son of the late Gerald C., Sr. and Beatrice (Leal) Walker in Sidney. Gerald graduated from Sidney High School with the Class of 1945. He served his country honorably in the United States Army from 1945- 1946 in Fort Dix, NJ. On October 2, 1953, he married Betty Palmatier in Walton, NY. They spent 56 years of love and marriage together. He was a longtime employee of E.C.D. of Bendix (Amphenol), working as a machinist for 41 years. Jerry was an avid outdoors man, and greatly enjoyed fishing and hunting. He and Betty were members of the Sidney Boat Club at Oneida Lake. They enjoyed water skiing at the East Sidney Dam with their children and going to Cannonsville Dam for picnics, fishing and boating. They traveled to different state parks, and loved to camp. Jerry was also a sports enthusiast following the Detroit Tigers and the New York Knicks. He played football and baseball for the town team, the Sidney Cardinals, and was a golfer at Sundown Golf & Country Club in Guilford. Jerry was a pee wee baseball coach in Sidney in the late sixties. He earned the esteemed honor of being a 2009 Inductee into the Tri-County Bowling Hall of Fame. He was a 50 year member of the First Baptist Church of Sidney where he taught 8th grade Sunday school for many years. Jerry loved to sing, and participated in recitals in Sidney. He and Betty enjoyed summer trips with their grandchildren to Disney World, FL as well as spending winters in Lakeland, FL upon retirement. Jerry is survived by: Loving wife, Betty Walker Sidney Five children: Jerry Walker, III Melbourne, FL Cheryl and Mike Sherman Masonville Laura Metcalf Norwich Brenda and Royce Gerow Walton Paul and Amy Walker Nineveh 18 grandchildren: Theresa, Christine, John, Alicia, Cassie, Sam, Melissa, Valerie, David, Becky, Charlotte, Jessica, Amy, Ryan, Caitlin, Kyle, Christian and Hannah 9 great-grandchildren: Katelyn, Sara, Matthew, Jayden, Autumn, Katherine, Masten, Scarlet and Kylie Brother and sister-in-law: William and Esther Walker Sidney Sister and brother-in-law: Colleen and Keith Scott Masonville As well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Gerald was also predeceased by his brother, Duane Walker and two sisters, Wanda Waldron and Virginia Derrick. Friends are invited to call on Friday, March 19, 2010 from 11:00am-1:00pm at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. Funeral services will follow at 1:00pm at the funeral chapel with Rev. James Ingalls, pastor of the Faith Community Church, officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to either the First Baptist Church of Sidney, 28 River St. Sidney, NY 13838 or the Faith Community Church, 32 West Main St. Sidney, NY 13838.
