Thomas Alphonse (Skip) Moisan Thomas A. Moisan, age 88, passed away on March 17th, 2017 four days prior to his 89th birthday, at Westminster Towers Nursing Home in Orlando, Florida. He was born in Cold Spring Harbor NY to Zacharie and Elizabeth (Smith) Moisan. He was the last surviving of eleven children. He was predeceased by his siblings: Joe, Ted, Adel, Louise, Leon, John, Betty, Maddy, Zach, and Ollie. His wife, Joan K. Moisan, passed away 11/4/2016 after a long illness. Skip is survived by daughters Karen (Don), and Elizabeth (Brian), sons Tom (Karen), Kevin (Juli), and Kenneth. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Christopher, Kristen, Meghan, Michael, Katie, Kendra, and Kierra, and four great-grandchildren, Addyson, Bradyn, Kylie and Keegan. There are many surviving nieces and nephews who he enjoyed being with or chatting with on the phone. Thomas A. (Skip) Moisan and his wife Joan met while working in a supermarket in Greenlawn, NY. They were married at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Greenlawn, NY. They settled into a home in Cold Spring Harbor, NY and raised their five children. The Moisan's were surrounded by a large extended family while living on Long Island. They were members of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Huntington, NY. In the summer of 1976, the Moisan family moved to Afton, NY. Skip and Joan owned and operated the Norwich Fish Market in Norwich, NY. While in Afton, the family was members of St. Agnes Catholic Church. Skip's career included climbing electrical poles, stretching wire for lilco on Long Island, commercial electrician, which included work on empire state bldg., and replacing components on bridges throughout NYC area, as well as Truck driver, warehouse foreman, and seafood business owner. Skip was a member of Cold Spring Harbor Volunteer Fire Department. He was an initial member of the Cold Spring Harbor rescue squad. He was often spotted at Firematic events, parades, clambakes, pig roasts, and other local gatherings. He enjoyed cooking, hunting, bowling, and playing softball. He lost sight in his right eye as a teenager, which is one of many life events that never slowed him down. After moving to Afton, Skip joined the Afton Volunteer Fire Department and enjoyed serving with his sons and their friends. Their home in Afton was always open welcoming friends and family. Many of their children's friends passed through their home while growing up. The home was known for its family cookouts, parties and dinners. Skip served the communities of Cold Spring Harbor and Afton as a volunteer firefighter & fire police for over 50 years. On weekends Dad would often be found flipping chicken racks at charitable events to benefit the community or help someone in need. He had a passion for life, the fire service and gathering with those he loved. In the summer of 2007 Joan and Skip moved to Orlando, FL, to be closer to family. Skip's Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church, 5125 S. Apopka-Vineland Road Orlando Fl 32819 on 3/25/2017 at 11:00 am. Graveside committal services will be held in Afton on 4/29/2017 at 1:00pm in Glenwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to either Cold Spring Harbor Fire Department or Afton Fire Department in remembrance of Dad.
