Obituary of Catherine D'Imperio

Catherine D'Imperio, Sidney, NY Catherine (Kate) D'Imperio, a longtime resident and businesswoman in Sidney, joined her family reunion in Heaven on February 7, 2017. At the time of her passing, she was 90 years old and was surrounded by her family in her own home of more than 70 years in Sidney. Kate was born on September 7, 1926 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Joseph and Anna Cody. She moved to Sidney with her parents at an early age and attended Sidney High School. She and her husband, Don, owned several businesses on Sidney's Main Street for over four decades. These included a grocery store (Don's Super Market), a restaurant (Don's Subs), and a transportation business (Sidney Cab Company). Although Kate had many interests outside of her business life, she mostly enjoyed her large family and was always a welcome companion to them at local events, a Mets game, a casino, a Barry Manilow concert or a road trip. Kate was particularly proud of the fact that she was the matriarch of one of the largest families ever to graduate from Sidney High School: all ten in her family are alumni. It is safe to say that "maroon and white were always the colors that made her pulses throb." Kate was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Don, and a granddaughter, Callie. She is survived by her children: Fran (Richard) Martin, Kingston, NY; Chuck (Trish) D'Imperio of Oneonta; Jim (Sandy) D'Imperio of Houston, Texas; Susie (Gary) Whitham of Syracuse; Bob (Jan) D'Imperio of Lititz, Pennsylvania; Chris Dexheimer of Sidney; Mary Simonds of Sidney; and Teri (Tom) Schunk of Sidney. She leaves many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. A commemoration of Mrs. D's life will be held at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney on Saturday, February 11, 2017 beginning at 11:00 a.m. The family will be in attendance. A funeral service will begin at 1 pm at the funeral chapel. Burial at Sidney Prospect Hill Cemetery will immediately follow. Condolences and memories may be shared online at www.landersfh.com.
