Obituary of Ruth L. Tietjen

Ruth L. Tietjen Bainbridge, NY Ruth L. Tietjen, 88, of Bainbridge, passed away on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 following a brief illness. She was born on January 10, 1928, daughter of the late Harold and Margaret Law in Bloomfield, New Jersey. In April 1948, Ruth was married to John E. Tietjen in Bloomfield, NJ. He predeceased her in January 2008. While her children were young, Ruth was a homemaker and stay-at-home mom. In 1975, she and John moved to New York. She worked as a secretary at Greenlawn Elementary School in Bainbridge, retiring in 1990. Ruth was an avid bowler, participating on leagues in both Bainbridge and Sidney. She loved flowers, especially Lily of the Valley and hyacinths, and could often be found gardening. She also had a sweet spot for sweets; she could skip a meal and go straight to the dessert. She is survived by: 3 sons: John E. Tietjen, Jr. and his wife, Jean of South Plainfield, NJ; Mark R. Tietjen of Inverness, FL and Peter A. Tietjen and his wife, Julie of Harpursville; daughter, Ruth A. Swift and her husband, Brian of North Norwich; two grandchildren: Alison E. (Tietjen) Karounis and her husband, George of Madison, NJ and Steven J. Tietjen of South Plainfield, NJ and two great-grandchildren, Dimitrios and Penelope Karounis. In addition to her parents and husband, John, Ruth was predeceased by her daughter, Patricia E. Tietjen in 1960, as well as two sisters, Alice and Peg. Friends are invited to call on Saturday, January 7, 2017 from 2:00-4:00pm at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. Graveside services will take place in the spring in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge. In lieu of flowers, consider donating to the charity of one's choice.
