June Isabelle Garrison Simonds
Bainbridge—June Isabelle Garrison Simonds, 86, of Marathon and formerly of Bainbridge, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Chenango Memorial Hospital in Norwich. June was born on October 6, 1930, daughter of the late Raymond and Charlotte (Petley) Garrison in Barker, NY.
June was married to Donald Simonds on June 2, 1951 in Bainbridge. He predeceased her after 47 years of marriage. She was a teacher's aide for Bainbridge Central School for many years.
She attended the United Methodist Church and St. Peters Episcopal Church in Bainbridge. June has always been very busy with her family and many social groups, school events, Girl Scouts and the library. In more recent years, she'd also been active in the women's club, lunch-bunch, DAR and the Bainbridge Alumni Association. Her love and understanding of the natural world is reflected in everything she did, from bird watching to camping to wild flowers.
June is survived by: two daughters: Cathy and Michael Niggli of Marathon and Gale and Richard Hamstra of Norwich; three grandchildren: Margaret Ann and Greg Whelehan of Hilton; Matthew Powers of Malone and Arden Hamstra of Norwich; brother, Robert Garrison of Spencer; as well as many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and countless very treasured friends.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Don; a sister-in-law and three brothers-in-law.
Friends are invited to call from 11:00am-1:00pm on Friday, October 21, 2016 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Funeral services will begin at 1:00pm at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in her memory may be directed to the Alzheimer's Association at www.alz.org or to the local Jericho Garden Club c/o Debra Hromada 15 N.
