Jesse Eugene Hurlburt, Jr., 86, of Bainbridge, passed away on Tuesday April 26, 2016. He was born on December 20, 1929 in Nineveh, son of the late Nora and Jesse Hurlburt.
Jesse served his country in the US Army during the Korean War and received the Purple Heart. He was a hard working man: he worked at Christman Motors in Norwich, and was a longtime groundskeeper for Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney. He was a member of the American Legion, and enjoyed hunting, camping, farming, working on vehicles and visiting with friends. He was a loving family man, and spending quality time with them was very important to him.
He is survived by: his loving wife of 56 years, Jane "Elvene" (Goodrich) Hurlburt of Bainbridge; children: Nina Staiger of Holmesville; Gloria and Richard Dibble of Bainbridge; Carol Gormley of Bainbridge; Arnold and Brenda Carson of Bainbridge; Gary and Cassandra Carson of New Berlin; Barbara and William Wayman of Susquehanna, PA; Julie Squires of Harpursville; Jessie Hurlburt-Baldwin of Guilford and Rodney Hurlburt and Henri Byrnes of Bainbridge; 62 grandchildren, 67 great-grandchildren, 4 great, great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and sister-in-law, Bev Hurlburt.
In addition to his parents, Jesse was predeceased by his brothers, Joe, James and John; and sons-in-law, Vincent Gormley and Rex Squires.
Friends may call from 6:00-8:00pm on Monday, May 2, 2016 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, and from 10:00am-11:00am on Tuesday, May 3rd. Funeral services will begin at 11:00am on Tuesday, May 3rd with Rev. Chuck Reppard officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Jesse's family to offset medical expenses.
