Howard A. Lockhart Bainbridge--Howard A. Lockhart, 60, passed away February 14, 2016 after a long illness, with his family by his side. He is survived by his wife Ellen (Schmutzler); children: Erica (Giovanni) Guevara, Howard M. (Marie), Rachel; granddaughters, Eva and Audrey; his father, Howard L. Lockhart; Aunt Joan Maier SSND; brothers: Paul (Karen), David and sister, Marie (Terry) Haskins; mother-in-law, Barbara Schmutzler, Marilyn (Sudhir) Kulkari, Donna (Gary) Ferguson, Robert (Celeste) Schmutzler, Debbie (Bruce) Rogers, Pam (John) Hawes, Lori Sulger, and many nieces and nephews, who loving called him "Ankle Howie". He was predeceased by his mother, Claire Lockhart, father-In-law, Richard Schmutzler, and brother-In-law, Dan Sulger. Howie attended Holy Family School and Aquinas High School class of '73, Alfred University class of '77 where he played football, was a member of Lambda Chi, and majored in Ceramic Engineering. He was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills, even though he vowed never to watch them again. His first and only job was with Minerals Technologies (Quigley), where he worked for 34 years and made lifelong friends. Howie visited every steel mill in the United States and many around the world. Retired in 2011, he raised cattle as a gentleman farmer and became active in the community. He was a member of the Bainbridge- Gilford school board, a lector at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, and worked his way up to Grand Knight of The Knights of Columbus 2010 to 2013. Howie first and foremost has a passionate Catholic faith which carried him through his life on Earth and will carry him through his eternal life in heaven. In life he was a people person who thrived on being with friends, enjoyed lively conversation, and playing games: golf, settlers, or cards. He would say to "Study hard and play good with the kids" and will be greatly missed by us all. Friends may call from 6:00-9:00pm on Friday, February 19, 2016 at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney, NY 13838. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Saturday, February 20th at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 32 South Main St. Bainbridge, NY 13733, with Fr. Darr Schoenhofen officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge. Memorial donations in Howard's name may be directed to the Knights of Columbus #4937, 15 Liberty St. Sidney, NY 13838. Condolences and memories may be shared online at www.landersfh.com.
