Obituary of Benjamin Hobbie

Benjamin Hobbie Unadilla, NY Benjamin "Ben" Jake Hobbie, 62, of Unadilla, New York, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, New York after a very brief battle with cancer. He was born February 20, 1953 in Sidney, New York to Norris and Betty (Almy) Hobbie, and lived much of his life in Unadilla and Hamden. He attended Unatego Central School where he graduated in 1972. Ben was a man who loved life and all of its variety. He had a passion for cars and worked as a technician for 40+ years. In addition to his love for cars, he also had a great love for the outdoors, which he fulfilled with fishing, golfing, playing baseball with the Bad News Bears, gardening and camping. He also enjoyed playing in the snow. He treasured his friends and had an abiding love of and for music. He played an awesome air guitar and was known to his friends as Dr. Rock. He enjoyed NASCAR, detailing his cars and playing pitch. He was a member of the Unadilla Rod and Gun Club for many years. Ben was extremely loving and proud of his family. He is survived by his best friend Jackie Hobbie; his two daughters Jenniffer Hobbie, and Holly Hobbie-Begeal and her husband Alan; 4 grandchildren Kellen, Raina, Owen and Brennen; his two sisters, Bernie Talbot and her husband Lew, and Barbara Lord; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and many special friends. Ben was a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend to all. Ben was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Beverly Carpenter; and his mother-in-law and father-in-law Arlene and Herman More. A celebration of life service will be held Friday, February 19, at 5:00 p.m. at the Unadilla Rod and Gun Club. Memorial donations may be made to charity of your choosing.
