Obituary of Alma June Smith

Alma June Smith, 89, formerly of Bainbridge, passed away suddenly on February 28, 2024 at A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta. She was born in Oxford, NY on October 14, 1934, the 7th of 8 children to Hugh and Ida (Harrington) McGowan. June spent most of her life in Bainbridge and was employed at various local businesses including Borden's and the Garden Food Store. She was involved with her community as a 4-H member and leader for over 25 years, volunteered with the Board of Elections and instructed snowmobile safety classes. She enjoyed organizing softball games and picnics at the pond, gardening and cooking. June also loved eating out and regularly frequented Bob's Diner, S&S Café, Henry's and most recently Judy's in Sherburne. She is survived by her four children: Dale Striegler, Vicki (Richard) Lamoreaux, Norma (Timothy) Tansey and Kay Striegler; grandchildren: Lisa Striegler, Kimberly (Brennan) Webster, Jacob (Sherry) Lamoreaux, Sam Tansey, Adam (Asuka) Tansey and Alexis Tansey; great-grandchildren, Preston and Kira Webster and Lyla and Kaia Tansey; brother-in-law, John "Jack" Howard; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Clifford L. Smith; former husband and father of her children, Holger "Corky" Striegler; and all of her siblings: Inath (Lloyd) Hubbard, Earl (Joyce and Harriett) McGowan, Nora (Kenneth) Craver, Sylvia (John) Witchella, Reta (Ward) Collier, Joyce (Richard) Powers and Ann Howard. Graveside services will be held at 11:00am on June 22, 2024 in Greenlawn Cemetery, Bainbridge. Following the burial, a celebration of her life will continue at the Oxford American Legion with lunch for family, friends and neighbors. At June’s request, please do not send flowers, but instead consider a memorial donation in her memory to either the Greenlawn Cemetery Association, or the First United Methodist Church of Bainbridge.
