Obituary of Sylvia Dermody Roberts

Sylvia Dermody Roberts, 101, of Sidney, NY and most recently of Elgin, TX, died January 31, 2024. She was born in Lackawaxen, PA on September 7, 1922, the oldest of three children to Walter and Charlotte (Vollmer) Holbert. She graduated high school in Hawley, PA in 1942. On April 10, 1943, she married Martin J. Dermody and they had four children: Sharon Mae (Gary) Potter of Elgin, TX, Terence Martin Dermody (deceased December 5, 2022), Kevin Joseph Dermody (deceased February 18, 1980) and Dennis Brian Dermody (Partner Jay Celuch) of Poughkeepsie, NY. Besides her children, Sharon and Dennis, she is survived by her sister, Ella Eggenberger of Greeley, PA; grandchildren: Michael (Mary) Potter of Portland, OR, Scott (Cris) Potter of Dallas, TX, Nicole (Todd) Ralph of Medina, NY, Lori Dermody (David Parsons) of Hamilton, NJ, Kristian (Amy) Dermody of Las Vegas, NV and Joseph Dermody (husband Ryan Buesser) of Stamford, CT. She is also survived by daughter-in-law, Paula Lynch of The Villages, FL; seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Sylvia worked for 30 years at the Scintilla Magneto Division of the Bendix Corporation in the Communication Office. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother Donald, her first husband Martin Dermody (1982), her sons Terence and Kevin, and her second husband Gerald Roberts (2013). A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30am on April 5, 2024 at Sacred Heart Church, 15 Liberty St. Sidney, NY 13838. Prior to the service, friends may call from 9:00am to 10:00am at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery, Sidney.
