Obituary of Gary William Weslar

Please share a memory of Gary to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Gary William Weslar Gary William Weslar, adored first child of the late Thelma and George Weslar, died peacefully Thursday December 15th amid and surrounded by the love of his caregiver family at his Bird Ave. Community Home with Springbrook. Gary was born in Binghamton but spent many years at the Rome State School before moving to the Broome Developmental Center in 1974. Gary's mom continually thanked the late State Assemblyman Richard Miller for his assistance in this. On July 31, 2013, Gary became a part of the Bird Avenue home in Sidney, NY. Gary has touched so many lives in so many ways during his lifetime. Everlasting bonds and so many memories were created between Gary and so many of his Caregivers. Gary was an amazingly strong man; a fighter, a lover, and a true gentleman who brought happiness and joy to all who had the good fortune of working with or just spending time with him. Gary loved relaxing in his recliner in a nice quiet room, participating in water play and other soothing activities. He enjoyed listening to old disco music from time to time, too. Despite his difficulties, Gary took on and conquered his life and managed to have a way to brighten everyone's day. Along with his Springbrook family, Gary is survived by his sister Valerie (Shaun Harty) and his brothers Jerry, Joe, and Bob; his nephew and niece, Colin and Caitlin, his Uncle Fred Abdallah, and many cousins. The Weslar family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers who so devotedly gave of themselves to Gary each and every day, and who offered the following, "Words cannot express the loss we have experienced, the sorrow we feel or how incredibly much Gary will be missed by us. We are so thankful and blessed to have had this time with Gary that not one day shall go by when we will not think about his amazing smile, his incredibly soft hands, his quiet sense of humor and the overall joy he brought to each and every one of us, each and every day. Gar-Bear,… we are truly going to miss you!!!!" Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday December 20th at C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St. Sidney. In lieu of flowers, please make a generous donation to Springbrook in Gary's name or to the Charity of your choice. Donations to Springbrook can be sent to the attention of Stacey Grady at 105 Campus Drive, Oneonta, NY 13820. Condolences may be shared with the family online at www.landersfh.com. Arrangements are under the direction of C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, Sidney.
