Eugenia "Genie" Lee Peters, 90, of Afton, passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2026 at Batavia VA Center. She was born on March 28, 1936, the daughter of Kenneth and Christine Plog in St. Louis, MO. She was a proud Mizzou tiger and earned her Bachelor's from the University of Missouri. From there, she went on to earn her Master's in Psychology at Ohio State University, where she met her future husband, Frank Peters. They married on June 30, 1962 in Kansas City, MO. Genie worked as a paralegal at Hinman, Howard, and Kattell Law. She was a lay preacher and an elder at the Afton Presbyterian Church, where she and Frank contributed much of their time serving the community. She maintained her faith and love for the underdog until the end. She was predeceased by Frank and her sister, Christine Plog. She is survived by her two sons and daughters-in-law, Ken and Yoshiko Peters, Germantown, MD, John and Tracy Peters, Rush, NY; and three grandchildren, Aya, Ryan, and Evan. Calling hours will be Friday, August 14th from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the C.H. Landers Funeral Chapel, 21 Main St., Sidney, NY. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, August 15th at the Afton Presbyterian Church/Hope Community Fellowship, 11 Academy St., Afton, NY at 11 a.m with the Rev. Doug Horne officiating.
