Donald Lee Tuttle Obituary

Donald Lee Tuttle, 81yrs, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 5 th , 2026, comfortably in his home.


He was born on March 25 th , 1945, to Clifford and Evelyn (Mcarthur) Tuttle of Sidney, New York.

Don attended Sidney Central School and received his Bachelor's degree in biology, and Conservation

Education from the University of Michigan, School of Natural Resources in 1967, joining the Society of

Les Voyagers. During that time, he married the love of his life, Janice on Dec 18th, 1966. Don then

earned his master's degree in international education and administration from Syracuse University in

1973; with graduate coursework in Mexico, England and Holland. He later traveled and worked in

France, Spain, South Africa and Lesotho.

An avid outdoorsman, geologist, naturalist, ecologist, historian and conservationist, he had a lifelong

affiliation with Boy Scouts of America.

He held many titles such as; teacher, counselor, coordinator, instructor, administer, electrician,

missionary, mediator, curator, mentor and friend. Accomplished artist, accredited journalist and a "keen

eye" photographer. He was a proud Gideons member and Trustee at the Unadilla Lighthouse Baptist

Church and did mission work in Africa where he was given the name Ntate Donald. Troop 1

Scoutmaster, Otschodela Council Commissioner and Vice President, Leatherstocking Council Northeast

District National Advisor and International Representative. Retired in 2004, as a certified residential

electrician for NYSEG he was President of the Southern Tier Geology Club, was a Paul Harris Fellow of

the Unadilla Rotary Club; a Unadilla Chamber of Commerce Director, Unadilla Village and Town

Historian, and President and Director of the Unadilla Historical Association Troop 1 Boy Scout Museum.

Don was predeceased by his parents and sister Carol Echeverri of Port Saint Lucie, Fl

Don is survived by his wife Janice Tuttle and children: Matthew, Christopher (Christine), and extended

family daughter Stephanie Easton. Brothers and sisters in law; Dan Echeverri and Elwood (Sue) Johnson;

nieces and nephews: Mariah (Shawn), Adrianna, Jeff (Jenn), Jim (Christine),


A memorial service will be held at Fellowship Baptist Church of Unadilla (Covered Bridge Rd.) on

Saturday June 27, with calling hours between 11 am – 1 pm. A Memorial service will be held at 1:00pm followed by food and beverages.
