Helene Josephine Mondonedo, 65, of Sidney, passed away on Sunday, May 17, 2026 at A.O. Fox Hospital in Oneonta.

She was born in Brooklyn, NY on March 7, 1961, daughter of the late Gennaro and Pauline (Oster) Scopo. After graduating from South New Berlin, she enlisted in the United States Navy where she was stationed at Diego Garcia, Subic Bay Philippines and San Diego California. Her time in the Philippines fostered a lifelong love of Filipino foods, especially torta talong (fried eggplant).

Following her honorable discharge, she went on to work at Amphenol Aerospace in Sidney for over 20 years.

Helene enjoyed horror movies and had a love for all types of music. She loved all animals, particularly horses as a young girl. She was happiest being by the water and spending time with her family.

In addition to her parents, Gennaro and Pauline Scopo, Helene was predeceased by her brother, Gennero Scopo.

She is survived by her husband, Jerry Mondonedo, and four daughters: Dawn, Angela, Jenny (husband Brock) and Jerri (husband Walter) as well as six grandchildren: Abraham, Karlee, Abree, Brodie, Bentley and Braelyn.

Services for Helene are private and at the convenience of the family.
