Matthew Martin Walsh, a man full of humor, warmth, and adventure, passed away on April 12, 2026, at the age of 39.

Born on January 15, 1987, in Brooklyn, New York, Matthew was joyfully welcomed as the ninth child of Eugene and Therese Walsh in Sidney, New York.

Growing up in Sidney, Matthew was active in Cub Scouts, Webelos, and Boy Scout Troop 88, where he earned both the rank of Eagle Scout and the Ad Altare Dei Award. He was baptized and confirmed at Sacred Heart Church in Sidney, where he also faithfully served as an altar server.

He attended St. John's University in Queens, New York, spending two summers interning with the FBI. He graduated in 2010. After college, he worked for a travel agency in New York City before becoming a flight attendant with Frontier Airlines. During this time, he became fluent in Spanish and especially loved traveling to the Dominican Republic.

An accomplished athlete from a young age, Matthew developed a deep love for roller hockey and baseball. As a boy, he even played in an adult hockey league. On the baseball field, he was known for his powerful fastball and home runs -- some hit so far they reached the public pool beyond the outfield and parking lot!

As an adult, his love for baseball never wavered and enjoyed club and summer leagues. He found passion in softball, where he not only excelled as a player but also emerged as a natural leader across the many teams and leagues he joined.

Matthew's entrepreneurial spirit was evident early on. In elementary school, he started "GoFigure!," a small business reselling Star Wars figures -- just the first of many ventures. Over the years, he ran various side businesses, including selling electronics and car accessories online, designing and selling custom t-shirts, and driving for Uber.

Known for his quiet yet infectious personality, Matthew had a gift for conversation and could connect easily with anyone he met. His warm, calm smile and deep chuckle made people immediately feel at ease.

He had a special way of bringing people together, especially when entertaining his nieces and nephews. His magic tricks were legendary, and he had an instinct for keeping things lighthearted. Matthew's love for food was simple but steadfast -- he never met a hot dog he didn't like.

Matthew is survived by his loving parents, siblings, and many nieces and nephews. His genuine kindness and joyful spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed.

A private memorial will be held in his honor. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for prayers for the repose of his soul.
