Vivian May Young Obituary

"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen. They must be felt with the heart." -Helen Keller

Today we weep, yet we find comfort in our gratitude for the 86 years of moments and memories we have shared with Vivian, who was called home to our Lord on March 31, 2026. Having Vivian in our lives was not merely about love; it was about her lasting impression on our hearts. She is a blessing we will forever cherish.

Vivian was born Vivian May Harnen on March 24, 1940. She married Milton Young on January 10, 1970, in Poughkeepsie, NY. Together, they built their lives on a foundation of caring for others and creating a home welcoming to all.

For Vivian, giving was her purpose in life, and she embraced many in her joy of caring and her devotion to others. Family, friends, and strangers alike were touched by her generous heart, and she will be fondly remembered for her impact in her community, church, and by those who knew her. Whether she was donating the gift of time to a not-for-profit, cooking for those in need, feeding a stray, or spreading smiles with her delicious baking, Vivian made the world a better place with her laugh and, most especially, her kindness. No one felt that more than her family, and her selfless heart has been passed down through generations.

Vivian is predeceased by her mother, Velma Ronk; her father, Charles Harnen Sr.; her siblings, Laura Morano and Charles Harnen Jr.; her loving husband, Milton Young; her beloved daughter, MaryAnn, with whom she devoted her life and shared a deep love of Elvis; and her treasured cat, Lucky. We take comfort in knowing they are once again together.

Vivian is survived by the children she cherished, Kim (Tom) Coutant, Rotonda West, FL, with whom she shared their home and sunshine when she relocated to Florida to live with them, giving Vivian a wonderful life with her cat, Bella. Daughters Lynette Sweet, Unadilla, NY, Jackie (Edward) Merritt, Hyde Park, NY, and son (Lee) Milton Jr. (Tracy) Young, Sidney, NY.

Her grandchildren, who filled her life with so much happiness and pride, Thomas J. (Maria Dutcavich) Coutant Jr., Krisanne (Rick Munson) Coutant, Maryann (James Parese) Merritt, Edward (Grace Stoler) Merritt Jr., and Jillian (Brandon) Lee, and her many great-grandchildren, who kept her young at heart and filled her life with endless laughter. Her stepdaughter, Mary Joy Morrison, and siblings, Joyce Prince, George Harnen, and Margaret Fox.

Respecting Vivian's wishes, no services will be held, and interment will be private with immediate family. If you wish to honor Vivian's memory, please consider making a donation to the Sidney Fire Department or the Delaware Valley Humane Society. Both organizations hold a special place in Vivian's heart.
